Young Ahwatukee group is rising in alt-punk scene

Before Sarah Polenick entered Desert Vista High School as a freshman this month, she had already appeared at the renowned Rhythm Room, Hard Rock Café and Joe's Grotto in Phoenix.

At 14, Sarah isn't even the youngest in the four-person band Shattered Kennys; bassist Jacob "Jake" Paige is younger by two months. She is, however, its only female member, singing lead vocals.

Sarah, Jake and his brother, Joshua Paige, 17, all from Ahwatukee, are Desert Vista High School students. They're joined in the Shattered Kennys band by Jay Zarecki, 34, a former music and science teacher who built a local...

Shattered Kennys Have "Runaway" With Their New Single

   Shattered Kennys, who has previously released Gymnasium Confidential, a fun youthful anthem of mixed feelings and angst follows up with a song about finding yourself in an awkward position of love and hate.

   This is their second single from producer Brad Amick who produced and recorded both of local superstars Halocene's last albums, "The Secret" and "Can You Hear Us Now".

Young, Local Band Climbs Charts to No. 1

   Shattered Kennys, an Ahwatukee Foothills-based band, has quickly climbed the charts to No. 1 for punk/rock/alternative music on reverbnation.com for the Phoenix area. Band members include: Jacob Paige, bass player; Joshua Paige, drummer; and Sarah Polenick, singer, and Jason Zarecki, guitar. Three of them are currently attending Desert Vista High School. 
   Shattered Kennys has played at a variety of venues in the Phoenix area including Hard Rock Cafe, Club Red, The Big Fish Pub, and Joe’s Grotto. They have upcoming shows at The Rhythm Room on July 22, The Big Fish Pub on Aug. 3, and are opening for the band Eve to Adam at Club Red on Aug. 7. They are also headlining a charity benefit show on Sept. 2 at Loco Patron in Ahwatukee.
